Breast Lift

Whether due to the effects of pregnancy or the aging process, a woman’s breasts can gradually sag to the point where she is no longer happy with their appearance. Mastopexy, more commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure that restores the pertness and roundness that characterizes youthful breasts. For women who have lost a considerable amount of volume or would like to have larger breasts, a breast lift procedure at our cosmetic surgery practice in Plano TX can be combined with breast augmentation.

If you would like to learn more about this procedure, contact Dr. Alfred Antonetti to schedule a private consultation.

Breast Lift Candidates

Ideal breast lift candidates include women in good general health whose breasts are sagging or have taken on a “deflated” appearance after pregnancy, breast feeding, significant weight loss, or simply due to gravity and the natural aging process. Although a breast lift can be performed at any age, it is recommended that women wait until their breasts are fully developed before undergoing breast lift surgery. During a private consultation at our Plano TX practice, Dr. Antonetti helps individuals decide whether a breast lift may help them achieve their desired appearance. If a patient is interested in breast implants, Dr. Antonetti helps them to decide which type and size of implants is most suitable for her.

The Breast Lift Procedure

For optimal patient comfort, breast lift surgery is typically performed at our Plano TX practice under general anesthesia. The entire procedure takes approximately three hours to complete, depending on a woman’s specific needs. During the procedure, the surgeon removes excess skin and moves the nipple and areola to the desired position. The specific techniques used during this surgery may vary from patient to patient, as the procedure is customized according to each individual’s physique and goals for surgery. Many women opt to receive breast implants during their procedure in order to add more volume and firmness to their bust lines.

Recovery after Breast Lift Surgery

Patients may experience some bruising and swelling in the breast area after breast lift surgery. These side effects typically subside in two to three weeks, and pain medication is prescribed to alleviate discomfort during the healing process. After approximately a week, most patients are able to return to work. Any strenuous activities, however, should be avoided during the first few weeks after surgery to allow the breasts ample time to heal.

Breast Augmentation Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

Women who have lost breast volume or with breasts that have become droopy as a result of childbearing, weight loss and age, find a combination of breast lift (mastopexy) and breast augmentation is usually the most effective method for breast enhancement. In most cases, women with significant ptosis and insufficient breast size will need a breast lift and breast augmentation combined, to achieve optimal results. The breast lift will elevate the areolas and reshape the breasts, removing extra tissue while the breast augmentation will add volume for a more natural look and feel of fullness.
